Total Drama What the Actual.

Total-drama-pahkitew-island-248

I turned on this show in hopes of it being a decent season.

I am satisfied.

They’re still able to make very diverse characters, and plus the fact that they finally added an Asian competitor really help boost my like for the show.

Basically, after the last season, which blew up the previous island, the competition moved to a new island. 16 new contestants will compete for $1,000,000. Each episode one contestant will be eliminated from the game.

Aside from the actual challenges, a lot of things happen on the side, like plots, friendships, relationships, backstabbing, everything, concurring with the name, “Total Drama”.

Now, the relationships have always intrigued me (seeing how some would call me a “hopeless romantic”), but one relationship this season really hit home.

—If you do plan on watching the show, you should stop reading now.——

Remember the whole Asian competitor? Yeah, so her name is Sky, and she’s ironically played by a Russian. She’s highly competitive, and is also an awesome athlete. Being one of the “power players”, she finds herself making it to the finals.

Now, her counterpart (and by that I mean her romantic counterpart), Dave, he’s almost an opposite. He’s a very “pampered” boy, wearing polo shirts and being insanely obsessed with germs. He’s pretty thin and unbuilt, but he has a pretty determined mind.

As the season went on, Dave began developed rather “strong” feelings for Sky. It becomes mutual attraction, but Sky is hesitant because of her competitive spirit. They nearly kiss at least 5 times in just one episode. Their attraction grew stronger and stronger, but both of their flaws hold them back, plus another competitor kept cockblocking them.

Eventually, she was transferred to the other team, and she was able to forget about Dave. Dave didn’t take it well. Dave even helped Sky not get attacked during one of the challenges. But at the urging of her teammates, she backstabbed him. Even though it was a cartoon, I could feel his pain.

Later, as the teams were broken up altogether, Dave tried to win Sky back by proving himself a man. She doesn’t take it well, and rejects him in front of everyone and as a result, he falls onto the ground in an emotional puddle.

Well, I never thought I could relate to a cartoon. At the end of the challenge, Sky was about to be eliminated, but Dave voted for himself and spared Sky from elimination. When he is about to leave, he looks back to ask Sky to contact him after the challenge is over, but she’s not there and he leaves thinking she completely forgot about him.

Fast forward to the finale, where the finalists randomly select their partners. The other finalist got his athletic girlfriend, while Sky got Dave on the first spin. She is disappointed, seeing how Dave lacked skills basically in anything. She spins again and gets Dave again. She is now forced to partner with Dave.

Dave tries to make things up with her, and it’s revealed to him that Sky did not want him as a teammate. Sky needed him to focus for her to win the million dollars, so she kisses him and agrees on going on a date with him. However, as the episode continues, it’s revealed that she has a boyfriend back home, and that just ended it for Dave.

Sky doesn’t win the million and never reconciles with Dave. The official ending concludes with a bitter Dave being attacked alone on the island.

I was very moved by their story when Dave got shot down by Sky and eventually voting himself off instead of staying. I teared up at the end, and I found myself sympathizing with Dave. Watching that episode brought back the painful memories of being rejected and all the mixed signals that were so difficult to understand.

Even though my story ended with nothing happening with me, I had hoped that Sky and Dave would re-conciliate at the finale. My hopes began fading as I read the description of the episode:

“Shawn pairs up with Jasmine, while Sky is stuck with Dave.”

The beginning is bittersweet, with Sky seemingly flirting with Dave so he would be cooperative. Later on, it seems that they earnestly are working together. But as Sky’s relationship is revealed, everything changes. Sky claims that she wanted to break up with her boyfriend, but didn’t get the chance. Dave reached his limit, completely against Sky at this point. Although Jasmine (the partner for the other finalist) also felt betrayed, she still cared for her counterpart (again, romantic). It ends with Shawn (the other finalist) winning the million and splitting it with Jasmine and Sky accepting defeat. But Dave is still bitter and is left behind.

Now that was a horrible ending for me. Just horrible.

Maybe there is no hope after all.

I’m gonna try to hunt down the alternate ending, which is made for every season of Total Drama Island. Maybe if Sky wins, things change.

Even if it is in a parallel universe, I want to see Dave win.

I think that will help me sleep better.

I do apologize…

I’d like to apologize for the lack of posts lately. The unavailability of stable internet, life events, and general procrastination has barred me from making “wholehearted” posts.

I don’t wish to fill your feed with three sentence posts, and I seem to have lack my constructive posts lately, but no worries, my posts will begin again shortly.

Obviously, you pressed that “follow” button for a reason, and I ain’t about to let anyone on the interweb down now.

Have a pleasant day/night/life.
